Mag Monday 5
April 20th, 2009 by MagI missed last week’s MM so here’s an extra helping of MAGTASM.
Dirty Projectors‘ upcoming album, ‘Bitte Orca’, leaves where ‘Rise Above’ left off, only this time around it’s all original songs (Rise Above was an attempt to remake the Black Flag album, Damaged, from-memory). It’s definitely their most accomplished and accessible album to date. ‘Remade Horizon’ is a stand-out song for me, with a sweet chorus line. Yeahhh I wanna!

‘Triceratops‘, from Castrovalva’s upcoming self-titled mini-album roars through your speakers like a rocket… or a Lightning Bolt? They definitely have some Lightning Bolt influence in there, and maybe some of the more jazzy elements of Squarepusher, but whatever, it has everything turned to eleven and they have massive potential. Check it out!

I hadn’t listened to Marnie Stern since her debut album, which I was a huge fan of. I can’t remember why I didn’t check out her (ridiculously titled) follow up, ‘This Is It And I Am It And You Are It And So Is That And He Is It And She Is It And It Is It And That Is That’, but I regret it. Like last time, Zach Hill is still making work of drums and there’s still all the awesome spazzy guitar-tapping. I share with you: ‘Ruler‘.

I thoroughly enjoyed Errors‘ ‘How Clean Is Your Acid House’ EP, so naturally I wanted moar. Out in Manchester last week, I picked up their album ‘It’s Not Something But It Is Like Whatever’. It’s more of the same, which is all great. Here’s ‘Toes‘ for you to enjoy, not just because it has a great name, but because it has some heavy driving melody to it! Enjoy!
