Mag Monday 8

May 12th, 2009 by Mag

It’s been one of those busy Mondays for me, so here’s your fashionably late – yet still fresh and juicy, dripping with goodness – MAAAAG MONDAY!!! (I really should write these things beforehand and post them first thing Monday morning, oh well.)

PivotI checked out Pivot based on some positive reviews of their album, ‘O Soundtrack My Heart’. Most described them as an instrumental band that sounded somewhat like math-rockers, Battles – and being a big Battles fan, I jumped on-board. What I found is a band that while having sections that sound very Battles-esque, also sound somewhat Errors-esque with the synthy electronics and whatnot. What I’m trying to say is that they’re very mother duckling good. There’s some really genuinely decent instrumental work in there, and it only took one listen for me to love it, which means the album will stick with me a long long time. If you’re a fan of Battles, Errors or even 65dos you should check this out… hey, even if you’re into instrumental music in general check them out, you wont be disappointed.

Anyway, here’s a more Battlesy song from the album for you, titled ‘Sweet Memory‘. Enjoy, and don’t get caught dancing, since that has been banned. >:O

Zach HillI picked up Zach Hill’s ‘Astrological Straits’ a few weeks back and have been enjoying it since. The album’s full of weirdness and sounds, but say what you like about the guy, fact is he’s pretty ridiculous on drums (as in good) and the percussion pretty much makes this album. Being a fairly prolific guy, he has drummed for a plethora of artists and projects including Crime In Choir, Goon Moon, Team Sleep, Marnie Stern and most notably, 50% of the Hella duo. Ohh yeahhh. Here’s ‘Toll Road‘ for your personal gratification.
