Your Friday Fix (11/21/2008)

Friday, November 21st, 2008 by Ipequey

More music to damage your ear drums here! This week, we’ve got all kinds of good stuff, so lets get rolling!

The Decemberists – Valerie Plame (2008) The Demberists (Portland, Oregon), are one of those bands I’ve still not made my mind up about. You listen to some stuff, and it’s amazing, and then other stuff, and your wondering why you’re bothering your eardrums with this tripe. This song, however, is one of those amazing songs, and luckily enough, it’s on a single with one other song, so, if you buy it, chances are you’ll enjoy at least half the album ;)

Holy Fuck – Lovely Allen (2007) By far, one of the funniest band names I’ve seen since “Black Kids”, Holy Fuck (Toronto, Ontario), brings us this track “Lovely Allen”. For the longest time, I swore this song was called “Lovely Alien”, which made for a better title in my opinion. At any rate, enjoy their electronic synth stylings, and if you really want a drug trip sans drugs, watch one of their music videos animated by Chad Vangaalen (yay…raccoon!), who also performs some equally amazing music.

Chairlift – Bruises (2008) Yeah, I know. It’s that song from the iPod nano commercials. But still, I’ve gotta give Apple credit for using indie bands in their commercials! Chairlift is from Boulder, Colorado (one of like…three artists I’ve got in my library from Colorado..wtf, Colorado?), and has since relocated to Brooklyn, New York.

The Gaslight Anthem – The ‘59 Sound (2008) The Gaslight Anthem (New Brunswick, New Jersey) kind of reminds of Ryan Adam & the Cardinals, only with a bit more of a rock flair to their sound. I really dig this song, and hope you will as well!

Sea Wolf – You’re A Wolf (2007) Sea Wolf (California, Los Angeles) really won me over with this track, and in turn, I was rewarded when I bought their album “Leaves In The River”. This album was easily in the top 10 of the albums I purchased last year. The lyrics of this song are awesome, and flash me back to childhood stories like “Peter and the Wolf” and what not. Why? I’ve no idea…music is just funny like that. :) Enjoy!
