Mag Monday

From now on, every Monday (hopefully the morning) I’ll be sharing some things I’ve been listening a lot to lately with you. It’s like a taster of what I think is great right now. Of course it will probably be something obscure and maybe strange, but come along for the ride and try something new. You might just like it!
Up first is ‘About To Walk‘ by Throw Me A Statue. I found this song a long time ago as a freebie from a blog or something. I hadn’t heard it for a long time, but found it on my computer recently and fell in love again. The song starts with some fuzz and a gritty beat crawls in, which has nothing to do with the main song. It’s quickly replaced with a sung verse, ukulele, and synth bass. They all mingle and the chorus soars in. It’s pretty catchy. The song has this sort of psychedelic quality to it. I love it!

Andrew Maury is a guy who remixes songs for a hobby. He’s pretty good too! He did a couple of remixes for Washington, DC band Jukebox The Ghost. The songs in question are ‘Good Day’ and ‘Hold It In’ from their fantastic 2008 album ‘Let Live and Let Ghosts‘. Most of the guitar work in ‘Good Day’ has been replaced with synth, and the drums also replaced in favour of their digital counterpart. ‘Hold It In’ however, is more of a total re-work remix, with it’s bass-heavy synth exploding through your speakers. Check them out even if you’ve not heard of Jukebox The Ghost, they’re both stellar remixes.

Most people rush into these top album lists mid-December, but I’ve decided to chill out and really think hard about my top 10 favourite albums from the year that once was. Okay, I lie, I just haven’t got around to it yet. But here it is anyways. :(
