We Swim You Jump

December 30th, 2008 by Mag

Checking my email a couple of days ago, I was greeted by a short and simple message from We Swim You Jump, a pop band from Groningen, Netherlands. They were offering their new self-titled EP for review consideration. I decided to take a listen and was pleasantly surprised.

They compare their sound to the likes of Elliott Smith, Nada Surf and Rogue Wave. While I can’t really disagree with them, they do have a lot of their own style. The EP really stands out from a lot of the stuff that’s been sent in lately. ‘Sharks’ and ‘Sparks Fade Out’ are the standout tracks of the EP, but my favorite is definitely ‘1234′. It’s a catchy song. Opening with constant chord strumming that lasts throughout the song, it’s quickly intertwined with xylophone and catchy vocals. The song builds, adding a marching drumbeat and melodic electric guitar. It’s cut a little short by an abrupt ending, but is nonetheless a great song. Check it out below!
