Your Friday Fix (11/7/2008)
November 7th, 2008 by IpequeyHey all,
Ipequey here :3 Since I’m kind of new around the site here, I wondered “How can I contribute something new..” and it didn’t take me long to come up with the idea to share a few MP3s that would appeal to folks on a weekly basis. So, the idea of the “Friday Fix” came to be, thanks to beer, music and doritos. ;)
Here’s the gist: I’m gonna post a few songs that may/may not be new, but hopefully enjoyable, with some information on the band, etc. So, here goes…
Ra Ra Riot – Ghost Under Rocks (2008) Ra Ra Riot’s “The Rhumb Line” is one of my more recent CD purchases, and I’m totally not regretting buying what I worried might be an unsatisfying album. Quite the contrary, as this Syracuse, New York band delighted me with their quirky pop/rock style.
Fleet Foxes – Ragged Wood (2008) Fleet Foxes (Seattle, Washington) are a bit more folkish in sound, one of my guilty (secret?) pleasures, if done right. Hinting of Moody Blues, they really put on a great live show, with almost every member in the band singing along in perfect harmony. To sum them up in one word, “Talented”.
Ladytron – Ghosts (2008) Ladytron (Liverpool, England) has really won my heart over this year. They’ve been on my radar for a few years now, and their songs were always enjoyable to listen to, but I never went out of the way to check out a full length album. After a friend let me borrow “Witching Hour”, I decided to buy their latest effort “Velocifero”. I love how they pair a driving beat to their electronic sound. Since getting this album, I’ve gotten most every other album they’ve made, and while not as good as “Velocifero”, all are still quite good.
M83 – Graveyard Girl (2008) M83 is a French Electronica duo from Antibes, France. They always seem to make a good album, with haunting sounds that always get my adrenaline flowing. This song is off their latest album “Saturdays = Youth” which is quite good and has several other spectacular songs on it.
Matt & Kim – Daylight (2008) This song is brand spankin’ new to me, as I just only discovered it last weekend. It would seem it’s only available for download, as it’s not even on an EP/album/single yet. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York this band has only released their self titled album so far (2006). Here’s hoping they send more music our way!
Thanks, and let me know what you think of making this a regular thing!
